501 darts scoring

Start at 501. Throw up to three darts per turn. Finish at zero on a double.

What did you hit?

Singles score the number. The thin outer ring doubles it; the thin inner ring trebles it. Outer bull is 25, inner bull is 50, and a miss is zero.

Treble 20, single 20, single 5: 85. From 501, you’re left on 416. Three treble 20s make 180.

Leaving yourself a double

On 40, double 20 wins. On 32, double 16 wins. The inner bull counts as a double too, so you can finish 50 with it.

On 20, you need double 10. A single 20 takes you to zero, but it isn’t a double, so you bust.

What happens when you bust?

Go below zero, leave 1, or hit zero without a double, and your turn is over. Go back to what you had at the start of the turn.

Say you’re on 32. Single 20 leaves 12. Then you hit single 13. That’s too many, so you go back to 32. You don’t keep the first dart’s points.

Entering a turn

In Jesters Sports, you can enter each dart or the total for the visit. Entering the total doesn’t tell the app which numbers you hit; it just records your points.

If you finish with one dart, count one. If you bust on your second, count two and mark the bust. The darts you actually threw matter for your average.

Playing straight out?

Any dart that takes you to exactly zero wins in straight out. You can finish on a single, and leaving 1 isn’t a bust. Agree which finish you’re using before you start.
