Bowling stats

Your average tracks results. Spare percentage shows how often you cleared the pins left standing.

Your average

Add your finished game scores and divide by the number of games. 142, 158, and 150 average out to 150.

Use finished games and keep scratch scores separate from scores with a handicap added.

Strike percentage

Jesters Sports counts one chance to strike per frame: the first ball at the full rack. Three strikes in ten frames is 30%.

Extra balls in the tenth don’t add more chances to this stat. You’ll still get their pins in your game score.

Spare percentage

Count the frames where you didn’t strike. Those are your chances to make a spare.

If you made four spares in seven chances, that’s 57.1%. Dividing by all ten frames would give you a different number, because you can’t spare a frame you’ve already struck.

Open frames

An open frame leaves pins standing after two balls. Three open frames out of ten is 30%.

If you struck in the tenth, it’s a strike frame even if the extra balls went badly. The extra balls don’t become new frames.

Don’t count the roll-off

A tiebreaker picks a winner. It doesn’t change your game score, your average, or your strike and spare counts.

Comparing games

More spares can improve your score without more strikes. Compare several games.
